Between The Squiggles

My thoughts are like little squiggles inside my head.

Crickets

You probably thought I had something to say.

Not really. Just that I really, really, really like hearing crickets in the quiet of the night.

It traces back to childhood. I’d lie in bed, all tucked in, with a full tummy, taken care of. And I remember, as my eyelids grew heavy and I drifted off to sleep, the crickets were always there in the background. Decades later now, I guess it works like a time portal. I hear the same crickets, and like the snap of an invisible finger, my body relaxes. I know I am safe. I know I can be a child again.
